CDT Matrix
David Merrill's Component Display Theory, help the designer to classify instructional outcomes. Friends let us discuss about this. Share information on "Merril's Component Display Theory", and how content types came into being? (Why Fact/Concept/Process/Procedure/Principle?)
CDT matrix by david merill is an important part of instructional designing, it helps the eduactors to divide the content into 4 categories as facts, principles, process, procedure. it helps a lot in curriculum designing.
Well I use CDT Matrix when I have to place my objectives as per the 4 levels when I need to design my Blue Print before developing Formative and Summative Evaluation
I think CDT matrix is used for clear differentiation of content.. besides it may also serve as base to form blue print.....facts, concept, principle, procedure to differentiate which cognitive skills are required, one may even consider it in accordance wit blooms taxonomy.. facts is pure rote so it comes on knowledge levels, then concepts come on comprehension level...so on... Clear differentiation of content may help in order to etch out precise n specific performance objectives.
CDT Matrix is a structured and well planned format of creating levels of objectives. It has a clear and organised pattern that helps the instructional designers to work quickly, effectively and efficiently.
Component Display Theory was an extremely significant contribution to the field of educational technology as it represented one of the first successful attempts at separating instructional strategy from instructional content. CDT is also an intellectual parent of many other important instructional theories, including Reigeluth’s Elaboration Theory and the recent Instructional Transaction Theory which talks of automation of ID.

This CDT Matrix helps the instructional designers to form their learning objectives more specific according to these 4 categories.
CDT is the base for automation of ID.CDT helps to come out with effective solutions with the combination of perfomance and objective
